Meet The Teacher
I am Laurie Gowin. I am really excited for another year at Ruth Powell Elementary! Music is a universal language, and can be applied to every aspect in life. This is my fourteenth year teaching elementary music. Before this, I taught at Gila Preparatory Academy (grades 6-12) for 6 years. I have taught several subjects over the years, and Music is my favorite. A close runner-up would be Theatre. I have my AA Degree in Theatre and Cinematic Arts from Eastern Arizona College, my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Learning and Pedagogy from Northern Arizona University, and a Masters in Music Education from Arizona State University. I earned my National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music in 2020. Music has always been a passion in my life, and I am excited to share this with you!
